Full Name: Although she no longer remembers it, her full name is Rebecca Shelts. (I will often write her as Rebecca, although anything directly related to her speaking or anyone addressing her will be referred to her nickname.) Nickname: Ritzy
DOB/Age: 8
Physical Description: Height: 3'10'', is shorter than she should be for her age from not having a steady diet. Weight: 43.5lb, very unhealthy weight from not eating enough. Hair: Rebecca has long (slightly longer than shoulder length) dark brown hair which once hung in ringlets around her face, now however, her hair lies in limp tangles. Eyes: Ritzy has a lot of trouble seeing because she used to wear prescription glasses to help her see things far away. Now she relies on squinting...it's been so long she's almost forgotten what the world really looks like. Not that she'd want to see much of it where she is now... Her eyes are a watery-grey color. Handedness: Ritzy is left-handed, because of what little she does remember of school Rebecca can read and write a tiny bit, but she is far from proficient.
Rebecca would be a very adorable young lady if she were able to take better care of herself, or more specifically if she had parents to take better care of her. As it stands now, the young girl is on the fast track to an early grave. Ritzy suffers from malnutrition and sleep depravation from being forced to live on the streets. In addition, she suffers heavily from the trauma of being abused and walks with a slight limp on her right side.
Ritzy wears whatever clothing she can salvage from shelters or whatever is lost on the streets. Right now her only outfit, if you can call it that, is a dusty grey adults sweatshirt and an old pair of children's shorts. She can practically swim in her sweatshirt, but is very grateful to have it because it is thick, warm, and has a hood. She used to have a pair of gloves, but gave them to a child smaller than her. Additionally she has a pair of worn out tennis shoes which are starting to become too small for her feet.
Personality: Rebecca is a rather quiet girl with a quite literally tortured soul, however she finds beauty and goodness in many things and actually has a hopeful outlook on life when she is able to talk with her angels... Lately however, she seems to be suffering from more depression and bouts of terror and has started talking about a blacked-winged angel who has been mentioning taking her home with him.
Ritzy does not trust most men, as she relates them all to her abuser and has difficulties telling them apart at times. When pressed too closely to men she is understandably prone to bursting into tears. However men like police officers are those she will come to trusting because she believes them to be working for angels seeing as they were the ones who got rid of her tormenter.
History: Rebecca had a very bright and happy childhood up until she was six. She was shopping in a toy store where she was abducted by a strange man. She ended up living with the man, whom she was forced to call "Daddy" for two years. Ritzy was abused physically as well as mentally and suffers heavily from it. When her abuser was captured Ritzy was sent to an orphanage because no one was able to determine who she was. Unfortunately the orphanage was forced to shut down leaving Rebecca and a few other children homeless... She has been living on the streets for several months now and is probably going to die there unless something changes.
Occupation: None, homeless.
Character Level: Kid.
Character Class: Divine
Sub-class: None
Class Description: Rebecca has been blessed, surprisingly, with a large amount of luck in that she can see, hear, and communicate with beings known simply to her as angels. (In addition to Angels she is also capable of seeing many types of spirits and demons.) Most would chalk this up to her current condition her abilities are absolutely real. While she is still too young to harness any divine powers, if she is aloud to grow up, Rebecca will probably be able to become a great healer...
Skill Class:
Weapons/Tools : None.
Pets/Familiars: Ritzy holds on to a small worn out stuffed rabbit she calls "Floppy". It is the only thing she remembers of her parents because she remembers them buying it for her in the toystore she was kidnapped from years ago...
Likes: Floppy, warmth, food, clean water, and clothes when she can get them.
Dislikes: "Daddy", men in general, night time, insects, and rats.
Anything Else? Not now.

Jessica after a a while getting better with Ky+Katan? Do you like that picture for Jessica? I can change any of the colors, I still have my "non-color" finish, and I can do any color you need (ex: hair, eyes, anything)

*cough Rebecca cough* ...Did you draw that?! *huggles* I sure hope you drew it. I'd love to see your base sketch too, I'm weird in that I tend to enjoy line-arts more than color. Granted I am impressed, and very curious to know what sort of program you used! Do you have a deviantART account? I'm of course SilverSugar.

Yeah, Srry "Rebecca".
Yeah I have the line Sketch. I need to pull it off my home computer though. I'll put it up. I use adobe Photoshop for refine and color. ^.^
It's the only "little girl" picture I've drawn though. >.< I just started a few months ago.
and no, I've been too lazy to start Devian, I will though.\\
If you don't want it, I think i'm still gunna use it.

How long have you been drawing? A few months? Or that's only a few months of trying to draw kid characters?
Sorry for all the third degree...it's not that I don't want to believe you, because I really do, it's just... I've been getting punched in the face by a whole crap-load of art thieves.
Do give me your account name when you sign-up though! You'll definitely be on my Watch list!

Haha, yeah I don't doubt you. I'll have the line sketch up there later today, that should be enough proof hmm? Well I have a very small portfolio >.<
But my mom (art major) has been teaching my so it makes things faster and better. ^.^ So I can't say that i'm a drawing genius. Just alot of hours at the desk and at the computer with my mom over my shoulder. Hmm I started August last year, saw a "how to draw manga" book at Borders and I picked it up. "Idiot's guide to Drawing Manga" Kinda like the "Dummies Guide" books but not.

Hm, did you draw this based on something? A trace? I really feel like I've seen it before.
Well, I'd love too see all you have either way! I really like it.
So if it truly is yours, protect it with a watermark...
And...Rebecca's hair is darker like brown, and her eyes are blue-grey.

Yeah >.< The basic figue shape (Just lines of child in window frame) is in the book for beginners. So it's not really originally mine. So I guess it's kinda a trace.

I see, I commend you for being honest about that. It's still a form of thievery, but I'm glad you told me. Hm... Why don't you read this. I've got another one somewhere like it, comicy, very neat. I also have tutorials for actual art if you'd like. I can also recommend a few good art books to you!

Meh, it wasn't stealing. It was a drawing manual....You're suppose to draw a picture off it....

No that was stealing... And you couldn't have drawn this. I took the liberty of asking some of my friends their opinion of this and they've told me that this picture has been online for years now. The exact picture. Nice try. photobucket.com/images/anime%20girl%20moon/I tried really hard to believe you, but unfortunately facts don't lie. Try actually putting pencil to paper on your own. I have no doubt you could really draw something that nice on your own if you just practice. I can get you tutorials if you'd like, it's really not all that hard... Oh and tutorials/guides aren't meant to be copied from either! You're supposed to study them and learn. Tracing doesn't help you learn to draw. I'm sure if your mother's really an artist, she'd tell you that much. Listen to her. Read up and practice. Don't pass off other artist's hard work as your own... If you draw honestly you'll get real praise and real growth that way. You don't need to lie to get what you want in life. Trust me. Thievery, even that of art, isn't worth it. You wont make it that way.

@silver:
Whether or not Deeplight drew this, you could have turned this into PMs to make it a little less public / harsh, IMHO. I think you have a point in what you're trying to put across, but you're coming across very, very rude, patronizing, and slightly arrogant.
To defend Deeplight, when I first started drawing, I would trace everything I found interesting online / in books so that I could develop a feel for how the pencil (or pen) should flow for the figure. There's also the possibility he did trace/draw it, because I can tell some differences between the picture posted and the hundreds within the non-specific link you gave.
Maybe he is putting pencil to paper, maybe he IS trying really hard and did trace parts of the original picture for reference and practice - that is not a crime. It doesn't seem like you tried really hard to believe him, seeing as you went and "took the liberty" to ask your friends around seeing if they could discount his claims.
I don't understand your statement about tutorials and guides - in the cartooning book I have, it directly states to try and copy what's shown to get a feel for developing your own style. If it's for beginner's development, then I see no real problem in copying and tracing - it really is a foundation for drawing, or at least one of them.
I don't know what you're talking about with praise for art - I've been drawing for over 5 years now and most the praise I get are requests to draw porn for whomever thinks I'll do it for them.
I think you're overreacting in this whole situation - art on the internet is up for grabs and available for all to see and use. My ex and I would find pictures we liked on the internet and we would sit in her room for hours, tracing them and eventually trying to redraw them from sight. That's the growth I found, in tracing.
On the flipside, claiming art to be yours which isn't IS wrong, but not worthy of being completely torn apart. It's not stealing, persay, seeing as there's no market or financial profit coming from saying it's yours on this site. There's always the possibility that Deeplight saw your art, liked it, and wanted to seem like another good artist on the boards. There's always the possibility Deeplight drew the original picture and continually touched it up until it reached this status. There's the possibility your friends were jealous/lying.
I just want to emphasize the fact that this could have been said over PMs, and not as harshly or patronizingly.

Hey, yeah so I lied. I'm sorry. >.< Well I believe you've broken any want to repeat that again! I won't claim any stolen work ever again. You've made me realize how crappy it is and if I had actually drawn such a picture and some1 claimed it to be theirs I would be pissed.
I am a artist in training however, and I will start a dA someday when I'm proud about my own work.
I'm sorry that I insulted your intelligence and hope that we can mend this rift that I have created.

*jaw drop stunned*
I'm...I'm amazed you admitted to that. Here I was afraid we'd be having an argument...most thieves...
This is your first time passing off artwork isn't it? I only hope you mean that statement because you'll get caught every single time you steal artwork and it'll only get more humiliating and costly.
A-anyway...I suggest you start a dA account now actually. I'm not proud of my own work but I still submit it. Why you ask? For critiques and confidence boosters! Real artists thrive on confidence boosters and critiques! Thank you very much for apologizing, I know it was hard to swallow your pride like that. And if you wanna' make it up to me; just don't do it again. Be honest with yourself and others. Life's more fun that way! And do show me some of your real art sometime. I would love to see it. Look at my gallery, I'm not good either. We all start somewhere.

Yeah, was kinda wierd saying it was mine.... I just had this picture that felt like could be rebecca saved on my comp. (I go hunting for massive amounts of Rp pictures at a time so I have a storage of them). And I knew I could change the colors so for somereason I felt like saying it could be mine...idk. I mean I know those steps, (I do blue pencil+pen, then color and refine on computer) so I thought I could sound geniune but yeah...
And really I only have some silly "Naruto stlye" ninjas and drill practice sketches and stuff. None of them are really finished the way I want them but I'll start that Da I guess.
Well anyways...I can change the color of that picture if your even remotely still interested. Or I can change colors on any picture you find. That's something I would like to say I'm quite good at.

hey, thx for the defend but you sorta contridicted yourself by giving her a lesson publically lol. All in all, I'm the one who made the mistake. I mean seriously if some1 were to claim my work I'd be pissed too.
Well anyways I guess I learned my lesson. ^.^ (trust me I did. That was the rude awakening I needed before it became a habit.)
I actually thank SilverSugar for helping me from screwing up.
[Silver, if there's anything about apologizing too much in that guide of yours please just can it. I'm seriously srry. You'll see me post a ton of other people's work, but I'll never claim it as mine again.]

Changing the colors is also stealing, unless you have permission from the original artist to change it. I don't really like Naruto myself, but I'd like to see anyway. I actually like pencil drawings and line arts more than color sometimes. I think I said that before. Hee hee.
I like the blue pencil trick! I'm not good at it because it's hard to see, but I hear it's very good for others! I'm so blind, it's amazing I can even draw!
In response to maialibre's above commentary... I don't think handling this one-on-one would have honestly solved anything. I'd say I was very polite, but then again, I never asked your opinion in the first place. *shrug* Thank you for your input though, I can see you have a good head on your shoulders.
No offense, but public humiliation can do wonders in situations like this. It forces people to be honest with themselves and others. I don't think I was rude or arrogant. If I was being rude I would have said all the nasty little things I'd really wanted to before Deeplight confessed. I was really pissed, but I didn't let that come through, did I?
Now, Deeplight, I do want to apologize for making you uncomfortable or if I hurt your feelings in anyway, but... Answer me this:
If I hadn't brought this up in a public area do you think you would have backed down so easily? Or do you think you would have tried to blame me in some way for attacking you? I honestly think that's where this would have gone myself. I was very angry, but as long as you don't do it again, I have nothing against you.
If you do promise not to steal anymore. You're more than welcome to color something of mine...credit due where appropriate of course. I'll give you something to try when your dA is set up.

I do agree that you bringing this up publically definetly pulls at the strings of the thief alot more than if done in private. (lol i noted that this is in that guide)
But personally, the moment you showed me that hunters guide the guilt hit me so hard I was battling with myself to just fess up with ya, but I got scared of the embarrassment I would have to deal with, and personally you would've gotten me on a Pm. But that's me, and you dind't know that. The public scolding is a powerful tool.
And I think I'm gunna be fine. The worst part of this situation is that i'm less trustworthy with you and the other members of the site. I'm suppose to be a mod/leader and trust is a necissary atribute in such a role.
Do you really think that changing the colors of other's art is stealing? I mean I only do it for Rp purposes so it fits the discription I want... Cause I mean I've done it like 20 times.... I'm not changing it so I can claim it or anything, nor am I posting it in a profile for people to look. I just change 'em for Rping....

Actually...I think you're more trustworthy, coming clean when you make a fault is just one of those traits I admire. I know I'm not quite there yet myself...not that it's comparing the same situation type thing. *confused herself* Anyway, just don't pull anything else stupid and we wont have a problem. *grin*
I personally feel it's wrong if you don't know the original artist. I can't do anything about your past, but maybe I've influenced your future. I think we're going to be good friends now huh?

Post by Deeplight on Jul 29, 2008 4:02:44 GMT -5
Yeah, sure. Hey now just really quickly:
In this situation alot of the others have been jumping on your case instead of mine. You even almost received disciplinary repercussions. However, I believed that I was in the wrong and that I deserved the scolding from you so you got off the hook.
However, we do have rules against such a bashing on our site. Here on Neo National we wish to maintain a welcoming enviroment for everbody. This doesn't mean I shouldn't have gotten what I did, but next time it should be private. We don't need to be teaching lessons to people and publically humilating them amongst the other members of the Rp site.
I know what I did must have sincerely offended you, and I appreciate you keeping everything very lightly toned in your repremending.
So just next time. It's not in my defence, but it's the rules of the site. Please abide by them or you'll be just wasting your time here.
Again I need to say that all in all I am the villian in this situation and not Silversugar.
[You still haven't won me over with the picture altering...]

People want to believe. It's in their nature. Hell, I wanted to believe you too. I like you. You're a good person, really. You just slipped up and wanted to get attention and admiration. Who doesn't? I admire you anyway, I hope you know that. What you just said made me feel all fuzzy inside.
And yeah I am just a little blunt. I've had my heart stomped on by thieves in real life. I take it personally. I NEVER get gift art...so when someone finally does give me something... God it really hurt to find out it was fake... Like...*fishes for an example* Buying your wife a diamond ring telling her it's very expensive, only to have really bought one of those glass things... Does that help you understand? I get hurt a lot... I was just trying to make sure you or anyone else didn't meet the same fate.
It's not so bad because it was me...but the artist... That person's work... It's all over the internet being passed off. That's not right. It happens all the time and it's wrong. Art shouldn't be used like that. It's wrong it's like tearing someone's soul into pieces! Art is meant to be loved not abused. (I made myself cry just now. *sappy face*)
As for breaking the rules...I'm sorry, but I just don't see that I did that. I hate to put it on you again, but you did bring it onto my character page which is my business. We are adults here and I had every right to say what I did. I'm not mad at you, more than I am depressed because of anyone who seems to think I've done something wrong.
I know I can be a little strong with my opinions, but if you knew me in real life you'd be wondering why I didn't speak up more. My stong voice exists online...it's the place where I feel safest helping others... I'm sorry if that doesn't make sense, but it's just the way I am. Honestly, I'm terrified of people, so when bad things happen, I tend to take it personally no matter what and when it actually is personal like this was... Yeah, I got a little upset. Can you blame me, honestly? No, you just said so.
I run several RP boards but I've been a member too. Believe me I've done my share of stupid things too, but you learn from it and try to become a better person! I'm not trying to take away from this forum or it's administration but...sometimes people need to just do what's right, you know? If I feel I can handle something privately next time (assuming there is a next time) I will, but sometimes I'm just not strong enough. I wanted people to be able to read this because I was afraid I would be fighting alone and loosing.
I'm sorry if I'm rambling. Its late and I'm a little cranky. I'm a total ass. I get that. I dunno', anyway, thank you for that Deeplight. I got what you were trying to say. It was sweet but... I don't really need to be defended. I'm sure I deserve it for something.
(I do not have the energy to discuss the moralities of picture altering at this time. I will state again though; If you do not have permission from the original artist you probably shouldn't do it. Unless, you credit and link back to the piece saying that you just modified the colors, but in any other situation it's just as bad as stealing. Thank you.)
